St Faith's Trip to Swanage 2009

This year, there were about 30 of us, a good mixture of adults, teenagers and youngsters (plus Toddy the dog). We met up at St Faith’s car park and set off, soon after 7am. By 8.30am we were all arriving in our cars at Fleet services and many of us enjoyed a cooked breakfast. Just after lunchtime we had all arrived and had been allocated our rooms. We then went down to Swanage sea front, the weather was kind and one person from the group was soon swimming in the sea. Many others, paddling, sun bathing or mooching around.

In the evening we enjoyed a scrumptious meal, with many joining in the preparation and washing up afterwards. The meal was polished off with various yummy homemade cakes and fruit meringues.

Later many of us went off for a night walk along the seafront, (plus a bit of fun, seeing how many people could squeeze into a phone box). We finished off with a nightcap in a local pub. The atmosphere and company was brilliant throughout the weekend.

On Sunday morning, we were served a wonderful breakfast prepared by the hostel staff.

We then went our various ways in Swanage. Some went walking, and some of us went for a ride on the local steam train up to Corfe Castle. It was a great experience. We shared a train compartment – space was tight; there was plenty of space on the train but it just was more enjoyable to share. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Swanage to try the steam train.

Back in Swanage we met up around lunchtime for fish and chips before making our way back to the cars for the journey home. We stopped again at Fleet and enjoyed a drink and the remaining cakes.  Another great weekend of tremendous fellowship and fun.
