Mothers' Union is a worldwide Christian fellowship of over 4 million members in 83 countries. We deliver Christian care for families’ right at the heart of communities. Membership of Mothers' Union is about being part of a dynamic, friendly organisation that goes the extra mile. Here at St. Faith's our branch, founded in 1959, has 26 enrolled members and always welcomes visitors.
We have a yearly programme which includes speakers on a variety of interesting subjects, some Mothers' Union related, informal member’s evenings, a summer trip out to a garden and Christmas Dinner at a local hotel.Mothers' Union seeks to nurture individuals, families and whole communities by:-
PRAYING for relationships to be flourishing and loving;
CAMPAIGNING for social justice for those on the margins and for greater recognition of the value of stable family life, and
ENABLING development of all kinds: economic, relational and personal, so that family life is strengthened.
The seeds we sow are seeds of hope, support and opportunity. If you would like to help sow these seeds and to find out more about Mothers' Union you are most welcome to come along to a meeting or contact Mary Goose, Branch Leader, on 01462 435605.
Our meetings are on the 1st Tuesday of the month at St Faith's Church, starting with a service at 7pm,.
followed by a meeting from 7:45pm to 9:30pm.
rrrWe have a link with a branch of the Mother's Union in St John's the Evangelist, Coffs Harbour, Australia.
As a branch, we organise for the senior citizens of our Parish an annual service followed by tea and entertainment.
With Hitchin Deanery, we supply cakes for the Letchworth Hospice. We make-up toilet bags for adults and Cheer-up–Bags for children, which go to local hospitals to give to patients.
We raise funds to support St Albans Diocese Mothers’ Union projects and worldwide campaigns. We have a branch Christmas dinner, which raises money for our Mother's Union charities. We support ”Make a Mothers’ Day", which aims to make a difference to the lives of mothers around the world.
As our original Mothers Union banner was worn out and damaged, it was decided to commission a replacement. This was made possible by the generosity of one of our long serving members. It is particularly pleasing to have our new banner this year as we celebrate our 50 year anniversary. The banner was blessed by the vicar of St Faiths, Charmaine Sabey-Corkindale, at the Mothering Sunday Service on 22 March 2009.
